The sun is shining today and this painting was painted with natural sunlight that poured into my sun room. The shadows are created by a beam in the center of the room. I love the warm feeling in this painting. It was purchased by a former student in Southwick. Sometimes the weather or an event bring up memories of different paintings I have done. Do other artists feel the same way?

Oriental Influence 24x 36 Oil on Hardboard
This painting was sold through a gallery, so I have no idea where it went. Most of the objects were purchased on a trip to China. I'm feeling a little melancholy about it. I can't seem to paint since Thanksgiving Holiday, so I am doing some pen and ink sketches of a series of butterflies from a recent day spent at 'Wings' in Deerfield Ma.

View of Hudson River Valley
Oil on board
14 x 18
This is a recently completed painting from a camping trip in New York. We love the Hudson River area and I love the Hudson River School painters. This was late summer. I like the colors better than in fall because the bright colors are just an accent instead of the whole show.

Every now and then I visit files of my paintings from the past. This piece was sold before it came off the easel. Fall colors entice me, the net bag with shadows and high lights was a challenge. This kind of repitition can be soothing, or boring for an artist. This time it was very soothing and very theraputic.
Is this how the local gourd growers sell their produce in your area?

This is an older Trompe L'Oeil that I painted from an egg skillet and a recipe card that my mother's cousin wrote out. The card really had the stains from the eggs on the corner and had a very slight misspelling in the directions. I love this farm feeling and suble color (yes there is true orange in the wall). Does this remind you of your parents/grand-parents or a farm/camp experience?

Afternoon at Tanglewood Oil on Board 14x18 |
We spent the afternoon with friends and I couldn't resist the chance to immortalize the moment with this painting. Reminded me of the artists at the beginning of the last century at the cafes.
Do you have a way to remind yourself of a special afternoon?
